Tony Hall – potter

Tony Hall has been a potter since he travelled to France in the early 70’s to learn throwing and wood firing at the pottery village of La Borne.

He was the big ware thrower for Whichford Potteries for thirty years. He has run a Pottery at his farm on Castle Hill in Knucklas since 2003, where he makes terracotta pots for the gardens of Britain , fired high and frost proof to withstand our Climate . His pots are bought by Rosa Bankes of Hergest Croft Gardens , Chelsea Gold medal winner.

His obsession Is Stoneware pottery, alchemy and art , of the pot and the glaze being one object. His work this year has been all about making a new white, And about relaxing his shapes , letting the ‘wabisabi’ back in.

His glazes use fly ash which he makes by burning the hedge clippings from our farm and collecting the fly ash.

Tony is opening his studio at Castle Hill Farm, Knucklas, Powys, Wales LD7 1PS. There are other open studios and artists on show in Knucklas for SHAW 2017.

If you come to Castle Hill Pottery you will see a potter at work and have the chance of throwing and of making some slip carved work for yourself!

Use LD7 1PS on your Sat Nav, but keep following the ‘Pottery’ signs up the hill to the end of the road.
