Isobel Hutton

Who I am

I prefer the sensuousness and flexibility of oils on canvas or board although

sometimes I work on very thick paper. I also enjoy printmaking such as lino or collogr

aph or mono prints. Even the mistakes can have interesting effects and can be worked on.

What inspires me

I have lived in this area for 6 years and love the colours of the Welsh Marches and the soft contours of the hills. Every season is beautiful to me even when it’s grey and pouring with rain.

Other things that inspire me could be a piece of poetry, memories of places I’ve visited and maybe just two people sitting together having a drink as their body language is another language to de-code.

Why I do it

It helps me to make sense of the outside world and gives me calm and satisfaction if the work has gone well.

My work this year

This year I went for a walk around the local quarry. The landscape seemed to have a lunar quality with these rugged rock faces and huge tipper trucks spiralling down to the bottom.

Why you should visit me

I don’t exhibit very often and I’m a slow worker so now is your chance to see what I’ve been up to.

Isobel will be exhibiting as part of a joint show at Aardvark Books in Brampton Bryan, SY7 0DH
There is a cafe and a great range of books to explore, as well as country walks and the River Clun nearby
