Shannon Donovan – ceramic artist

Bank House, Bishop's Castle SY9 5BQ

Who I am

I'm a sculptor who primarily works in clay.

What I do

I create mythologies and reinterpret familiar motifs and objects through the lens of ceramics.

What inspires me

Colour, structure and form; rust and decay; flamboyant floral patterns; the decorative possibilities of everyday objects

Why I do it

To explore and reevaluate received ideas about beauty and taste, and because I'm happiest when my hands are working with clay.

My work this year

I've been thinking about 18th-century plasterwork and using the exuberance and symmetry of ceiling roses as the starting point for a new series of wall-hanging sculptures.

Why you should visit me

To see ceramics as you've never seen them before.
