John Brookes – painter

Bank House, Bishop's Castle SY9 5BQ

Who I am

'Making pieces of art’, is a way of putting what I do. Sometimes I think I have something worthwhile to show for the effort, even something to say. Mostly my inspiration is the local and other landscape and the impact we have on it. As to the why of it, I prefer the absurdity of making art to the absurdity of not making art (adapted from Szymborska).

I’m seventy plus, intending to die young as late as possible. I’ve done many things in life, mostly nothing to do with art. I’ve worked as a commercial and industrial consultant, as a flower seller, as an odd job man, a tutor in mathematics, as an operations research consultant, a volunteer steward …I now volunteer at Croft Castle bookshop and with TTT (Tenbury transport Trust). as well as making pieces of art, I write poetry , short stories, live a life …

I’ve exhibited in Shropshire Hills Art Week (2016), Courtyard Open 2015, Chang Thai (Ludlow) 2015, The Fold (near Worcester) 2014, Winchester (1980’s), Guildford (1960’s).

My prices are negotiable; make me an offer! (preferably a sensible one please).

My work this year is all inspired by landscapes, mostly in Shropshire, but not exclusively.

John will be exhibiting as part of a joint show at  Bank House in Bishops Castle, SY9 5BQ
